Fire Retardants: How Safe Are They?

There's no argument about the vast amount of information we have at our fingertips today. Back in the day, obtaining information required a trip to the library and a perusal through the card catalog, at the very least.  Now, we have access to every minute piece of data in mere seconds. With this information has come more knowledge about what is safe and healthy for us, especially relating to the materials we physically come in contact with, such as lotions, soaps, detergents, and even candles.  In the same way, many business owners have similar concerns and reservations when it comes to the safety of the fire retardants used to flameproof items on their business properties.

Are fire retardants safe to breathe? Are they safe if a person touches the items that have received flameproofing treatments? Are they toxic to the environment? At Bronx Flameproofing, we understand and validate those concerns, and we are here to put your mind at ease regarding the chemical we use in the fireproofing process.

First, be assured that we only use flameproofing chemicals that are on an approved-FDNY list; those are the only ones we use, and the FDNY has given its stamp of approval on those specific chemicals.  Next, those chemicals are water-based and non-toxic. They have also been verified as being safe for the environment.  We also have material data sheets on all the chemicals we use.  They include more specific information about the chemicals such as special precautions, physical data, as well as protection and disposal information.  These sheets are available upon request to any business owner.

In order for us to retain our C-15 Certificate of Fitness from the FDNY, these are the only chemicals we are authorized to use, and those are the only chemicals that we utilize in all of our fireproofing treatments.

At Bronx Flameproofing, we understand the concerns and hesitations that safety-conscious business owners might experience when it comes to chemicals being used at their place of business.  We are pleased to offer our guarantee of safety as well as our commitment to rigidly adhering to FDNY standards. In contrast, having the items at your business location flameproofed does harm your patrons, but actually makes them safer by protecting them from fire.

If you have questions or concerns regarding the materials used, or if you have flameproofing needs you would like to discuss, please call us today. We are happy to address any issues, and we offer free, no-obligation estimates as well. Call today! 800-594-0117
